The African Development Bank (AfDB) is to release CFAF 79 billion (€119.7 million) to support the economic development of Cameroon’s Far North.
This region, which is facing a security crisis and the effects of climate change, will benefit from an ambitious plan to create jobs for young people and stimulate local entrepreneurship.
This funding is structured around three main areas:
Vocational training: CFAF 43.6 billion will be devoted to improving the skills of young people and women, particularly in the agriculture, services and trade sectors.
Support for entrepreneurship: FCFA 17.9 billion will be used to finance around 500 small local businesses, with loans ranging from FCFA 5 to 35 million per project.
Social infrastructure: FCFA 16.9 billion will be invested in the construction and renovation of markets, schools and hospitals, to improve living and working conditions.
