
Ivory Coast: Fishing activities suspended until July 31st
On July 3rd,Ivory Coast’s Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources announced the extension of the seasonal fishing closure, introduced in 2023 to safeguard the country’s fishery resources. For 2025, the closed season for artisanal sea fishing will run from July 1st to 31st.
An initiative which demonstrates the government’s determination to achieve an annual production of 100,000 tonnes by 2030, by harmonizing conservation and economic growth.
In Ivory Coast, the Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources announced on July 3, 2025 the extension of the seasonal fishing closure, introduced in 2023 to protect the country’s fishery resources. For the year 2025, the fisheries closure will apply from July 1 to 31 for artisanal sea fishing, and from July 1 to August 31 for semi-industrial and industrial fishing.
Since its implementation in 2023, the country has recorded remarkable performance in artisanal fishing production. In August 2024, this sector recorded a 45% increase compared with 2022, and a 20% increase compared with 2023, with reduced tide times. This government initiative aims to achieve an annual production of 100,000 tonnes by 2030, by harmonizing conservation and economic growth.
