Cameroon Youth Week: President Focuses On Self Employment and Green Jobs
Faced with persistent unemployment, President Paul Biya announced new mechanisms to promote youth employment in his speech on February 10th 2025.
The government will have to accelerate the establishment of municipal employment offices, create a National Directory of Trades and establish a regulatory framework to help first-time job seekers.
As part of the Green Jobs Promotion Programme, Cameroon aims to create 10,000 jobs in sectors such as sanitation, recycling and organic farming.
In addition, the operation to contract 9,000 health workers will soon be launched, and recruitment in the civil service will continue, despite budgetary constraints.
The Head of State is also urging young people to explore self-employment and promising sectors such as digital and agropastoral, in addition to programmes already in place, such as the PEA-Jeunes and Transfagri.
