Chad: Sustainable recovery thanks to closer African Bank

As Chad regains political stability, the country faces another challenge: transforming democratic momentum into real economic recovery.

In 2024, growth returned to +2.6%, driven by oil and modest public investment. But 42% of the population still lives below the poverty line, and access to basic infrastructure remains limited. In a landlocked country marked by drought and floods, the economy remains vulnerable.

To accelerate its reconstruction, Chad needs a solid partner. For several years now, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has been financing roads, energy interconnections and agricultural projects. But its impact remains hampered by slow disbursements and a lack of local roots.

Today, with the candidacy of Sidi Ould Tah for the presidency of the ADB, a new dynamic is possible. A former Mauritanian minister and President of BADEA, he is proposing to triple the Bank’s financing capacity and to anchor its teams more firmly in the field.

For a country like Chad, where 70% of the population is young, and where each investment can change lives, it’s no longer enough to be present: we have to deliver, quickly and efficiently.

Chad is ready to get back on its feet. The African Development Bank must also turn a corner.
