DANGOTE REFINERY : SOON TO BE AT FULL CAPACITY
The Dangote refinery, the largest in Africa with 650,000 barrels per day, is currently operating at 85% of capacity, according to its manager, Edwin Devakumar. It could reach 100% within 30 days.
Since January 2024, the plant has been processing crude oil into diesel, naphtha and jet fuel, and has been producing gasoline since September. The aim is to compete with European refiners and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imports.
But the refinery has failed to source its crude oil locally, despite an agreement with the government for purchases in naira. As a result, it has had to import oil* to maintain operations.
A full ramp-up would mark a turning point for the energy autonomy of Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer.
