Ivory Coast: 600 tonnes of cocoa to be produced in Tiassalé by 2026
Ivory Coast, the world’s leading cocoa producer with 40% of global output, faces a crucial challenge: modernising its agriculture to guarantee the production of high-quality beans while preserving the environment.
This sector, which is vital to the national economy, accounts for 10% of GDP and exports over 2 million tonnes of cocoa every year. As part of this drive, the first agro-industrial plantation to be set up in Tiassalé, with 230,000 cocoa trees spread over 220 hectares and integrated into a sophisticated agroforestry system, aims to combine modernisation and sustainability.
With a fourteen-kilometre irrigation network, the 230,000 cocoa trees benefit from an optimal water supply, boosting production. Thanks to this state-of-the-art infrastructure, the harvest has risen from 170 tonnes in 2017 to 250 tonnes in 2024, with an ambitious target of 600 tonnes by 2026, ensuring a promising future for the cocoa industry.
The progress made is the result of the hard work of over 200 employees, committed to achieving the Ivorian government’s objectives. With growing sales, this plantation is becoming a model of sustainable and innovative development. It embodies the future of cocoa in Côte d’Ivoire and Africa.
