Ivory Coast: FCFA 427 billion for water projects

In Africa, access to drinking water and quality sanitation remains a major challenge. In Ivory Coast in particular, the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene made significant progress in 2024 with a budget of CFAF 235 billion, particularly in the latrineisation of schools and villages.

However, audits have recommended adjustments to optimise the effectiveness of investments. On March 13th 2025, Minister Bouaké Fofana launched the 2025 budget, stressing the priority of rehabilitating infrastructure and extending drinking water networks.

For the 2025 financial year, the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene has been allocated a budget of 427 billion CFA francs, aimed at improving access to drinking water and sanitation infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. The number of programmes has been increased from four to six, broadening the ministry’s responsibilities, particularly in drainage and waste management. This crucial funding will support improvements to the living environment and sanitation for local people.

With a reinforced budget for 2025, the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene is focusing on improving access to drinking water and modernising sanitation infrastructures. Adopted last December, this budget marks a decisive turning point in transforming the living conditions of Ivorians over the long term.
