Yaoundé Cœur de Ville: Urban mobility project postponed again
The ‘Yaoundé Cœur de Ville’ project, more than 75% of which is financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), has been postponed yet again.
Initially scheduled for January 2024, then March 2025, its launch has been delayed due to the non-payment of compensation estimated at 1 billion FCFA.
The project, which will cost a total of FCFA 49.2 billion (around €75 million), is designed to improve urban mobility in Cameroon’s capital, where 4.3 million people rely mainly on shared taxis and walking. The works, entrusted to the French group Razel BEC, are scheduled to take 30 months and include the development of strategic junctions and bus stations.
Despite this new postponement, the project promises major benefits: 430,000 users should see their transport conditions improve, and 20,000 daily users will benefit from modernised bus stations.
