Nigeria: An additional budget of 200 million dollars for health
Nigeria has adopted a supplementary budget of 200 million dollars to compensate for the reduction in US aid to the health sector, frozen by the Trump administration.
This funding is intended to support vaccination and disease control programmes, at a time when the country was heavily dependent on USAID, which injected $600 million in 2023.
The freezing of US funds could also have an impact on humanitarian aid in the north-east, which has been affected by a jihadist insurgency since 2009. The decision underlines Nigeria’s vulnerability to fluctuations in international aid.
