Trade war: Beijing denounces taxes that « make no economic sense
China raises its voice to the United States as Beijing considers new US tariffs – of up to 245% – to be “devoid of economic sense”. A firm reaction, relayed on Thursday by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“These taxes have become a mere numbers game, used as a tool of intimidation,” says the ministry spokesman.
Washington continues to target Chinese products despite calls for dialogue. Beijing, for its part, maintains its position: it does not want a trade war, but says it is ready for one if its interests are threatened.
The escalation of tariffs between the world’s two leading economic powers is worrying the markets. Observers fear a new wave of tension in an already uncertain global context.
