EXPORTS: Chad boosts its gum arabic exports thanks to the Sudan crisis

Chad, the world’s second largest exporter of gum arabic, recorded a 25% increase in exports in 2024, reaching 52,500 tonnes, a performance, boosted by the security crisis in Sudan (the world’s leading exporter), enabled Chad to capture 15% of the global market share, up from 12% in 2023.

Revenues have also soared, up 97% to $42.28 million. The price of a kilo of Chadian gum arabic has risen from 700 CFA francs to 1,750 CFA francs in one year, driven by increased demand from France and the United States, its main customers.

With almost 700,000 hectares of dedicated crops, gum arabic accounts for 7% of Chad’s GDP, consolidating its place as one of the pillars of the national economy.
