Urban Management: Douala launches CFAF 80 billion waste management contract
The Douala Urban Community (CUD) has launched a CFAF 78.4 billion international call for tenders to improve waste management in Cameroon’s economic capital.
The contract, divided into four lots, will cover collection, transport and street cleaning, as well as the management of waste transfer centres.
Never the less, the city of Douala, which produces 2,700 tonnes of rubbish a day, is struggling to collect 70% of it due to a lack of appropriate equipment and infrastructure. The Régie de propreté urbaine (RPU), which was commissioned in December 2024, has not yet received the equipment it needs to operate at full capacity.
This critical situation highlights the urgent need for sustainable solutions to meet the growing needs in waste management.
